I love yoga, along with meditation, to calm my mind before or after a busy day at work. And as a hypertension sufferer I like that it helps my cardiovascular system too.

Research shows, yoga can significantly boost heart health. Most yoga classes teach breathing and relaxation techniques, so that as you relax further into the pose, so does your heart rate. 

So, for a healthy heart, you should  practice a few heart healthy asanas. Follow these 5 simple asanas listed below to get started:

Mountain Pose (Tadasana)

One of the most basic but fundamental pose in yoga, a correctly performed Tadasana will use every muscle in the body. It improves posture and, when practiced regularly, can help reduce back pain.

It can increase flexibility and strengthen the heart.

 

Tree Pose (Vrikshasana)

Similar to the Tadasana, the Vrikshasana helps improve, balance and flexibility.

Correctly executed with a steady breathing pattern, this pose can help relax the mind, calm the body and lead to a steady and healthy functioning heart.

 

Triangle Pose (Trikonasana)

Again, this pose is a great stress-reliever. It also promotes cardiovascular activity. If you practice the pose with correctly, then you will the chest will rotate upward, expanding, while creating an arch in the back that carefully opens up the heart and upper body.

Warrior Pose (Veerabhadrasana)

My favourite pose.

Warior pose releases stress whilst calming the mind, helping to keep the heart rate in check.

It also tones the thighs and abdomen, it helps to burn fta thus keeping the heart strong and healthy.
