Give birth?!? WHAT!?!?!?
What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
This question was asked at Hay House UK Ignite March 2018 and we were required to write down 10 things that entered our head when we asked ourselves this. Judgement was to be suspended and just write, no matter how much or how little sense the words made.
My thoughts included things like be a speaker, move house, run retreats etc but the one that shocked me (and my accompanying friend) was have a baby.
HAVE. A. BABY?? Me??
Now, I’m not going to go into all the reasons behind all of this but I did realise during the course of the day that I don’t ACTUALLY want to have any more children. The “have a baby” goal is actually more about creativity and “giving birth” to something rather than someone.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BIRTH?
If you’re thinking about another baby but are not sure about having anymore children, ask yourself what DO you want to be pregnant with? What do you want to grow, nurture, and give to the world? Alternatively are you seeking unconditional love that you feel only a baby can give you? Would childbirth just be a physical expression of what your soul is actually yearning for?
These may seem like silly, esoteric questions but this is making a BIG life-changing decision about having a baby, so it’s worthwhile asking yourself the above, to be 100% sure, before bringing a person into the world.
And whilst we’re talking esoterically, let’s look at our sacral chakra. Believe me, it’s connected.
What is the Sacral Chakra?
The sacral chakra is the second chakra and known as the creativity and sexual chakra. It is located above the pubic bone and below the navel, covering the genital region. It’s “official” name is Svadhisthana, which can be translated as “the dwelling place of the self,”
When the sacral chakra is balanced we feel abundance, wellbeing, pleasure, and joy. But if this chakra is out of balance, you can experience emotional instability, fear of change, sexual dysfunction, depression, or addictions.
Drawing, painting, baking, dancing, birthing – and honouring our body – that is, creative expression, open this chakra.

“[The Sacral Chakra] is the centre of reproduction and creativity as well as movement and emotion”
“As humans, it is part of our nature to create. This creativity can be expressed as procreation but the second chakra energy is certainly not limited to making babies.
When we cook, bake, or garden, we are creating. We create when we find a new solution to an old problem. Any time we take raw materials, physical or mental, and transform them into something new, we are using our creative energy.
The problem with creativity is that we are often discouraged from creative efforts, starting with education. Once we pass through the phase where colouring, painting, or cutting paper is completely acceptable, it seems that we must mold into less creative beings.
In order to conform, follow the rules and fit in, we sometimes lose our creative energy and thus, our unique ideas in the process. Adults become used to following what’s right, the latest trend, or what’s acceptable to others. Then, when asked to abstractly invent something new, we might have a difficult time doing it.” ~ Chopra Center
Symptoms of a blocked Sacral Chakra
When our sacral chakra is blocked we may experience symptoms generally confined to the lower abdomen, back, and reproductive and digestive organs.
The most common physical symptoms of a blocked sacral chakra are:
- back pain
- urinary and kidney infections
- gynaecological cysts
- abnormal menstruation
A Sacral chakra imbalance can manifest as emotional and psychological difficulties, including:
- low self-esteem
I have (and probably still am from time to time) experienced a lot of the above, so know that my sacral chakra is blocked and I hope that by indulging my creative side and birthing new projects I can clear the blockage. And there will be no more talk of little feet in the Burt-Skinner household.
Do you feel the need to birth something? Do you need to balance your sacral chakra in order to express your creativity?
